Traditional Zsigmond day

On April 30, Pásztó will open its outdoor event series. The opening program is none other than a historical festival, the Zsigmond Day of Remembrance, which takes place not only in the monumental zone of the city but also marks the debut of the Varázsvölgy tourist and event venue. There is a wonderful collaboration visible in Pásztó, as the organizers have prepared fantastic programs not only in the Ruin Garden but also in Varázsvölgy.

It is worth visiting the center of Pásztó in time, as from 10:00 AM, the Varázsvölgy will start hosting artisan workshops, and from 1:00 PM, archery and a Segway obstacle course await visitors. For those seeking historical entertainment, the Ruin Garden offers a folk playground where they can try the turtle-basket swing, chestnut slide, ox clapper, knight’s tournament, or the mortar cannon.

Once again this year, the Ruin Garden will host the highly anticipated Zsigmond Day cooking competition, which is announced by the representative body of the Municipality of Pásztó.

On this occasion, ladies can transform into true medieval princesses and beauties. Bódi Fruzsina awaits those who desire an extraordinary way to enhance their beauty with spectacular Zsigmond-era hairstyles.

Early afternoon is dedicated to children, as at 2:30 PM, the schoolchildren of Pásztó will parade in authentic costumes. The procession will arrive at the “gate” of Varázsvölgy, where they can meet and take photos with King Zsigmond and his wife, Cillei Borbála. The parade will be followed by a performance by stilt walkers and giant puppets, accompanied by live music presented by Vaga Banda.

The performers of Vaga Banda, in their stilt-walking act, entice those seeking entertainment to join the liveliest event of the day, as they can enjoy a fantastic dance house. The program, enriched with folk and medieval melodies and dances, will be led by folk dance instructors Hajdara-Herczeg Hajnalka and Hajdara Tamás.

For those who get hungry amidst the dancing frenzy, Mancsóék street food stand offers delicious barbecue dishes and gourmet hamburgers made from local ingredients.

As the eventful day comes to a close, the Kormorán band arrives in our city, bringing the high level of folk-rock music to the audience, starting at 7:00 PM. The lively atmosphere created by Kormorán won’t fade away, as the Hídvégi Band guarantees a festive mood during the street party that follows the concert.

Pásztó wakes up to a fresh, May morning on Sunday, starting at 10:00 AM with the May Day celebration, which awaits visitors in the Ruin Garden and Varázsvölgy. After trying out the bouncy castle and pony carriage ride in the Ruin Garden, children can delight their mothers with spring-themed, Mother’s Day crafts.

The May Tree will be erected in Varázsvölgy, where we welcome everyone who desires to decorate it and help dress the city’s tree in colorful and ornate attire.

From 3:00 PM, all skills will be put to the test in the circus courtyard, where visitors can try various juggling props, stilt walking, and unicycling, while aspiring performers will receive encouragement from real circus artists.

At 7:00 PM, the concert by Magna Cum Laude will be the highlight of the weekend event series, guaranteeing pleasant entertainment for the whole family.
