Introducing the Szalay Mill

In Varázsvölgy, the past and the present, the old and the new coexist simultaneously.

Who would have thought that among the buildings of our modern days, the building of a nearly thousand-year-old watermill, which once served the people of the town, is hidden?

The structure of the Szalay Mill is built with wood, following the authentic medieval practices. Its huge and impressive wheels alone captivate the onlookers. This experience is further enhanced by the mill’s ability to demonstrate the grinding motions, allowing visitors to experience up close how millers and their apprentices diligently worked for centuries.

In the first room of the Szalay Mill, visitors can explore an informative exhibition. Here, they can expand their knowledge with various mill-related objects and original blueprints. Upon request, guided tours can be arranged, where delightful and heartwarming local stories can be shared.

Next to the monumental mill structure, visitors can also try their hand at the original hand-operated mill, experiencing an even more ancient version of flour production.

The mill building offers not only museum exhibits but also entertaining opportunities such as a selfie corner, where visitors can create real memories and pocket them in the form of Polaroid pictures.

The mill also boasts a communal space, where workshops, craft activities, and conferences are organized in the extraordinary environment during the spring, summer, and autumn seasons, weather permitting.

Let’s preserve the traditions and at the same time, let’s explore new knowledge together!

The Szalay Mill is the most ideal place for this!
